Service Guidelines

MHCounselor.com offers online counseling services provided by a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in a manner that is ethical, professional, and non-judgmental. Your counselor follows the code of ethics of the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC), and the State of Florida Department of Health Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy and Mental Health Counseling. For more information, feel free to call (850) 488-0595. The counselor at MHCounselor.com can only be held liable under the laws governing the professional psychotherapists in the State of Florida under which it is licensed.

For ethical reasons, you must inform the counselor if you are currently in treatment by a mental health professional (psychologists, psychiatrists, clinical social workers, psychotherapists, etc.) There may be a conflict of interest in providing online counseling services if you are already being treated.

The nature of the online counseling services provided may vary from that of traditional in-person psychotherapy services. This service is NOT intended for individuals in a crisis situation, as it may take at least 48 hours for the counselor to respond. If you are in a crisis, immediately call 911 (in the USA) and seek appropriate help.

California Residents please note: California requires licensure in California in order to practice Web Counseling. Therefore, this online service does not offer Web Counseling in California. A referral for services in that state will be offered if you are unable to reach a mental health professional on your own.

According to Florida Statute 491.0147, any communication between you and your licensed counselor is confidential. This secrecy may be waived under the following conditions:

(1) When the information shared is subpoenaed by a court of law

(2) When you, the client, agree to the waiver, in writing, such as for the purposes of sharing information with another professional

(3) When you, the client, present a clear and immediate probability of physical harm to yourself, to other individuals, or to society and the counselor communicates this information only to the potential victim, appropriate family member, or law enforcement or other appropriate authorities.

Your counselor is mandated by law to report all suspected and/ or identified cases of Child Abuse or Neglect (1-800-96-ABUSE in the State of Florida).

All e-mail sessions, personal data and credit card information transmitted to this site are encrypted for your security. Although this site implements Internet Security Technology by Thawte, it cannot be held liable for breaches of confidentiality caused by you, the client of this service or by unknown parties (e.g. "hackers), or due to computer- related technical difficulties, such as "crashes" or server errors. As required in the Florida Statutes, the counselor preserves session data, choosing to do so with private hard copy and computer files.
